This program provides fellowships for women pursuing full-time study to complete dissertations, conducting postdoctoral research full time, or preparing research for publication for eight consecutive weeks. To qualify, applicants must have completed all course work, passed all required preliminary examinations and received approval for their research proposals or plan by a certain date. The fellowship must be used for the final year of writing the dissertation. Open to applicants in all fields of study, except engineering. This fellowship is intended for women completing their first doctoral degree.

Paul and Daisy Soros For New Americans
The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans program honors the contributions of immigrants and children of immigrants to the United States. Each year, they invest in the graduate education of 30 New Americans—immigrants and children of immigrants—who are poised to make significant contributions to US society, culture or their academic field. Each Fellow receives up to $90,000 in financial support over two years.
Society for Neuroscience
Each year, SfN honors some of the best research and achievements by neuroscientists around the globe with more than $500,000 in prizes and other compensation, such as complimentary travel and registration for SfN’s annual meeting.
These awards recognize scientists at all stages of their careers for a variety of activities, including research that expands knowledge of the brain and its functions, outreach programs that educate the public about neuroscience, and mentoring efforts that cultivate achievement for the next generation of neuroscientists.
American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
The ASBMB provides numerous awards, grants, and fellowships to scientists at all career stages.
Sigma Xi
The program awards grants of up to $1,000 to students from all areas of the sciences and engineering. Designated funds from the National Academy of Sciences allow for grants of up to $5,000 for astronomy research and $2,500 for vision-related research. Students use the funding to pay for travel expenses to and from a research site, or for purchase of non-standard laboratory equipment necessary to complete a specific research project.
Graduate Women in Science
The GWIS National Fellowships Program is proud to offer fellowships in 2018 to help increase knowledge in the natural sciences and to encourage research careers in the sciences by women. Endowment funds, mostly generated from bequests, provide the annual income that supports scientific research done by GWIS award winners.
