Host: Jer Pin Chong
Abstract: The use of genetic and genomic tools applied toward better understanding the evolution, ecology, distribution, and conservation of freshwater mussels (Bivalvia: Unionida) has advanced rapidly in the last 20 years. This talk will summarize some of the conservation-oriented research done in my lab highlighting the use of these tools for understanding the patterns of genetic diversity and structure of freshwater mussels in the Great Lakes region, guiding hatchery propagation for species restoration and recovery, and environmental DNA for rare species detection.
