Abstract: Invasive species are a prominent threat to global ecosystems and economies. In studying the invasion ecology, we have made great strides in understanding the patterns, processes, and impacts of invasive species. Invasion science has also identified policy and management solutions to reduce current and future risk. Nonetheless, natural resource managers report that they are losing ground to invasive species and a wide disconnect between science and practice continues to persist. Translational invasion ecology is a new term for an old idea that managers and scientists need to solve invasive species problems together. This presentation will describe the advent of the Northeast Regional Invasive Species & Climate Change (RISCC) Management Network. The RISCC Network aims to reduce the compounding effects of invasive species and climate change by synthesizing relevant science, communicating the needs of managers to researchers, building stronger scientist-manager communities, and conducting priority research. By helping to bridge the gap between science and practice, the RISCC network has led to more actionable science that addresses key gaps in manager knowledge.

Through this presentation, I hope to convince you that by intentionally connecting with people outside of science, we can play a larger role in solving today’s environmental challenges.
