DESCRIPTION:Join us September 3, 2026 at 4pm in SELE 4289 for a LIN Seminar "Mechanisms and functions of short-term synaptic plasticity" by featuring Dr. Skylar Jackman (OHSU)    Jackman Lab    Host: Joe Zak    Abstract: Short-term plasticity rapidly modulates neurotransmitter release and is thought to play important roles in sensory processing, cognitive flexibility, and working memory. Disruptions in short-term plasticity have also been implicated in multiple neurological disorders. Yet, the molecular mechanisms that govern this rapid form of synaptic plasticity remain poorly understood. In this talk, I will discuss my lab?s efforts to identify presynaptic proteins that support short-term plasticity. Defining the molecular machinery underlying rapid changes in neurotransmitter release will provide new insights into synaptic vesicle trafficking and fusion. Moreover, identifying these proteins enables targeted genetic perturbations that directly test how short-term plasticity contributes to circuit function and cognition. | Event post: https://bios.uic.edu/events?page_id=12421
