DESCRIPTION:Please join us on April 7, 2026 at 12:30 in SELE 4289 for an E&E Seminar featuring "Methicillin-resistant Staphylococus aureus transmission in Chicago communities" by Dr. Stephanie McGimpsey (University of Michigan)    Google Scholar    Host: Joe Walker    Abstract: Staphylococus aureus is a common cause of community- and healthcare-acquired bacterial infections. USA300 is a methicillin-resistant S. aureus strain that is prevalent in the USA and has been shown to disproportionately affect underserved urban populations in settings such as Chicago. Understanding how USA300 transmits across Chicago is key to slowing its spread within communities. I will discuss the use of phylogeography tools to determine how USA300 is transmitting within Chicago and the changes over time from 2004 to 2020. I will also show how gene and plasmid acquisitions are impacting transmission. Together, these analyses paint a picture of MRSA USA300 transmission in Chicago communities. | Event post: https://bios.uic.edu/events?page_id=12225
