DESCRIPTION:Join us 2/19/2026 at 4pm in SELE 4289 for a LIN Seminar featuring "Hypothalamic circuit control of feeding: Implications for obesity" by Mark Rossi (Rutgers University)    Rossi Lab    Host: Dennis Sparta    Abstract: Brain control of feeding and associated behavior is critical for maintaining energy balance, yet the neural principles that determine when and how much we eat remain incompletely understood. My work focuses on defining the hypothalamic circuits that integrate metabolic state, sensory cues, and motivational signals to shape feeding decisions. I will discuss my lab?s recent work using longitudinal multiphoton imaging, circuit-specific perturbations, and anatomical mapping to identify key hypothalamic populations and their downstream partners that rapidly regulate hunger, satiety, and food seeking. By examining how these circuits operate in real time and how their function is altered in obesity-related states, we provide a mechanistic view of how adaptive feeding control can become dysregulated. Together, these findings build a circuit-level framework for understanding the neural basis of overeating and highlight potential pathways for therapeutic intervention in obesity and metabolic disease. | Event post: https://bios.uic.edu/events?page_id=12179
