Join us November 6th, 2025 at 4pm in SELE 4289 for a LIN Seminar featuring "Neural Circuits that Control Eating and Overeating" by Dr. Lex Kravitz (Washington University)

Kravitz Lab

Host: Dennis Sparta

Abstract: Animals eat for multiple reasons – fulfilling caloric needs, storing energy for the future, and experiencing pleasure. Modern food environments are full of opportunities to overeat, which has resulted in a worldwide epidemic of obesity. This lecture will introduce multiple neural circuits that support eating, focusing on circuitry in the basal forebrain that governs feeding outside of caloric need and can promote overeating. It will end with a discussion of how this circuitry can be manipulated to combat obesity in mice.
