Host: Joe Walker
Abstract: Animals face natural changes, like seasonal and glacial cycles, and anthropogenic change. How animals cope with this change can inform conservation efforts as well as our understanding of basic biological processes. I consider these changes across a variety of systems, including bats facing an introduced pathogen that causes the disease white-nose syndrome, bat habituation to urban environments, seasonal adaptations of animals, and salamanders coping with the effects of contemporary habitat disturbance and historical fragmentation due to glaciations. When baseline conservation measures are in place, animals often reveal themselves to be surprisingly adaptable.
