Join us Sept. 30, 2025 at 12:30 in SELE 4289 for an E&E Seminar featuring "From Traits to Networks: Towards a Global Framework for Freshwater Food Webs" by Dr. Bruno Soares (University of Regina).

Soares Quantitave Ecology Lab

Host: Gabby Nunez-Mir

Abstract: Species traits and environmental gradients shape which species coexist and how they interact, ultimately determining the structure and dynamics of ecological communities. In this talk, I will show how my research integrates trait–environment relationships, community assembly rules, and food web organization, drawing on case studies from tropical rivers and synthetic analyses across regions. I will also discuss ongoing efforts to scale up from local case studies to global frameworks, using open data and collaborative approaches to model and predict food web organization and ecosystem functioning under environmental change.
