Abstract: My research program uses integrative and interdisciplinary approaches to test hypotheses surrounding the origin, diversity, and distribution of Neotropical fishes across broad temporal, spatial, and taxonomic scales. To that end, I incorporate fields that have the potential to illuminate new ways of thinking about evolution and biogeography, including genomics, morphology, ecology, physiology, and geo-spatial data. Most of my work focuses on freshwater fishes in Mexico and Central America, where the unique combination of a dynamic, complex geology and hydrology, as well as diverse ichthyofauna from both North and South America, make this region a perfect aquatic evolutionary laboratory.
